President reviews Nigeria’s security situation with military commanders and intelligence chiefs amid intensified operations against terrorists and bandits.

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday convened a high-level security meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with the nation’s military commanders, intelligence chiefs and top security advisers to review Nigeria’s security situation.

The closed-door meeting, which lasted more than two hours, brought together the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru; Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiandeye; Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Director-General of the Department of State Services, Adeola Ajayi, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed, and the President’s Special Adviser on Homeland Security, Major General Adeyinka Famadewa (retd.), among other security officials.

According to sources familiar with the meeting, discussions focused on reviewing security operations across the country and assessing ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry and other emerging threats.

The meeting came days after troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, reportedly disrupted a planned terrorist offensive in Zamfara and Katsina states through coordinated ground and air operations.

It also followed renewed attacks on military formations in the North-East, where troops of Operation Hadin Kai recently repelled an assault on the Mairari military base amid continued efforts to contain insurgent activities.

As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had not released an official statement detailing the outcome of the meeting.
