Senator Adams Oshiomole has criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over his call for a United Nations-led investigation into the abduction and rescue of schoolchildren in the state, describing the move as “unstatesmanlike” and accusing the governor of taking partisan politics too far.
Oshiomole said Nigeria is a sovereign nation with capable security institutions, noting that the rescue operation was successfully carried out by the country’s armed forces without the payment of any ransom.
The former Edo State governor questioned the rationale behind Makinde’s call for a UN investigation, suggesting it could be an attempt to diminish the efforts of President Bola Tinubu, the military, and the nation’s security chiefs.
He argued that rather than seeking international intervention, Nigerians should commend the security agencies for the successful rescue operation and support ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity.
Oshiomole also maintained that Governor Makinde’s comments should be condemned by the Senate, insisting that national security issues should not be politicised.
