Popular content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna is under investigation after a petition linked him to the alleged assault of a young woman who later died

The Delta State Police Command has arrested popular Asaba-based content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over allegations of rape involving a 20-year-old woman who later died.

According to the police, the suspect was arrested following a petition alleging that the deceased travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after Ogbonna reportedly invited her to participate in a content creation training programme promoted on his social media platforms.

Police said the young woman was allegedly lodged in a hotel, where she was raped and physically assaulted. She reportedly returned home traumatised and narrated her experience to her family.

The Command disclosed that before her death, the victim recorded a video detailing the alleged assault and the emotional distress she suffered. She was later said to have ingested a toxic substance in an apparent suicide attempt and died despite efforts to save her.

Confirming the arrest, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Acting on the directive, operatives swiftly commenced investigation, leading to the arrest of Ifeanyi Ogbonna, also known as ‘Odogwu of Asaba’. During preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly made useful statements, while further investigation is ongoing, Edafe stated.

The Commissioner of Police assured the family of the deceased and the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated and that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice.
