Senior Advocate polls 4,860 votes as legal practitioners await final results in closely watched Nigerian Bar Association poll.
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has emerged as the early frontrunner in the ongoing Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election.
Early results released at 11:33 a.m. on Saturday showed that Badejo-Okusanya secured 4,860 votes, accounting for 41.77 per cent of the ballots counted.
Her closest rival, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe (SAN), polled 3,851 votes, representing 33.10 per cent, while Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN) garnered 2,924 votes, translating to 25.13 per cent of the votes cast.
With a total of 11,600 votes counted at the time of filing this report, the election appeared to be tilting in favour of Badejo-Okusanya, although the final outcome is yet to be officially declared.
The development comes amid heightened interest in the NBA election, following allegations of possible interference in the process.
On Friday, NBA President, Afam Osigwe (SAN), dismissed claims that he was attempting to influence or rig the election, insisting that the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association operates independently and does not take directives from his office.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Osigwe reaffirmed the integrity of the electoral process and urged members of the association to remain confident in the committee’s ability to conduct a free and fair election.
Legal practitioners across the country are now awaiting the official declaration of results to determine who will lead the association in the next administration.
