Party alleges judicial intimidation of former Attorney General Abubakar Malami ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has accused the Federal Government of using judicial processes to persecute former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, over his alleged governorship ambition in the state.
The allegation was contained in a statement issued on Sunday and jointly signed by the Kebbi State Chairman of the party, Sufiyanu Bala, and Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Sambawa.
According to the party, the alleged actions are part of a broader effort to intimidate opposition politicians and discourage them from contesting elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“By 12 noon in 2027, their party is gone. That is why they are intimidating strong opposition figures who appear poised to replace them, particularly Malami, who is being persecuted through the judiciary,” the statement read.
The ADC further alleged that the Kebbi State Government was collaborating in efforts to frustrate Malami’s governorship aspiration through various forms of political intimidation.
The party claimed that the recent seizure of assets linked to the former minister formed part of a coordinated campaign by both the Federal Government and the state government to weaken his political influence.
Despite the developments, the ADC insisted that Malami remains committed to his political ambitions and expressed confidence that the courts would overturn the judgment against him.
The party maintained that no amount of pressure or intimidation would prevent the former Attorney General from participating in the 2027 governorship race if he chooses to contest.
It also called on relevant authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure that political opposition figures are not subjected to what it described as selective prosecution.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Federal Government nor the Kebbi State Government had officially responded to the allegations raised by the ADC.
