Lagos firefighters contain early-morning blaze as authorities suspect solar inverter system sparked the incident.
An early-morning fire has destroyed part of the Justrite Superstore in the Akowonjo area of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the commercial building.
In a statement on Thursday, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the fire affected the second floor of the building, which houses the electronics section of the store located around Jimoh Bus Stop, Egbeda-Akowonjo.
“Upon arrival, firefighters swiftly deployed firefighting equipment and commenced coordinated operations to contain the fire, prevent its spread to adjoining sections of the building, and safeguard lives, property and the environment,” she said.
Adeseye disclosed that the fire had been completely extinguished, while recovery and mop-up operations were ongoing. She added that preliminary findings suggest the blaze may have originated from an alternative power source, believed to be a solar inverter system.
No casualty was recorded in the incident.
