Security operatives free victims without ransom weeks after their abduction from an off-campus hostel.
The Department of State Services (DSS), in collaboration with security forces in Zamfara State, has rescued the four remaining students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, who were abducted in June.
The students were kidnapped on June 3, 2026, when armed assailants stormed their off-campus hostel in the Kaura Namoda community and whisked away six persons to an unknown destination.
In a statement, the DSS said the victims regained their freedom during a coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out without the payment of ransom. The agency disclosed that one suspected kidnapper was arrested, while others were killed during the operation.
Two of the abducted victims had earlier regained their freedom, leaving four in captivity until their rescue by security operatives.
The spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar, had earlier revealed that the attack occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on the outskirts of the Low-Cost Area in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of the state.
Following the abduction, security agencies intensified search-and-rescue efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the victims and apprehending those responsible for the attack.
The latest rescue comes shortly after DSS operatives secured the freedom of an abducted professor of Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Keffi, in another successful operation.
