President says Ogunjimi’s emergence reflects Nigeria’s growing leadership in public financial management across Africa.
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, on his election as Chairman of the African Association of Accountant-Generals (AAAG), describing the achievement as a source of pride for Nigeria.
Ogunjimi emerged victorious after defeating candidates from Tanzania and The Gambia in a keenly contested election held during the association’s Annual General Meeting in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said Ogunjimi’s emergence at the helm of the continental body underscores Nigeria’s sustained commitment to transparency, accountability and excellence in public finance administration.
The President noted that the election is not only a personal achievement for the Accountant-General but also a testament to Nigeria’s growing leadership role in advancing sound public financial management across Africa.
Tinubu expressed confidence that Ogunjimi would use his tenure to strengthen cooperation among member countries, promote the exchange of best practices, build institutional capacity and champion reforms aimed at enhancing prudent financial management across the continent.
He added that the new AAAG chairman possesses the experience, competence and leadership qualities required to advance the objectives of the association and deliver meaningful outcomes for member states.
President Tinubu wished Ogunjimi a successful tenure in office and assured him of the Federal Government’s full support in the discharge of his responsibilities.
