Collaboration delivers plans for subsidised driver’s licences, a dedicated students’ desk and stronger road safety campaigns across tertiary institutions.
The Federation of Oyo State Students’ Union (FOSSU) National Council has partnered with the Oyo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to improve road safety and expand access to essential transport services for students across the state.
The partnership was sealed during a courtesy visit by the FOSSU leadership to the Oyo FRSC Headquarters in Ibadan, where the delegation was received by the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Dahunsi.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to collaborate on initiatives aimed at promoting safer roads and enhancing student welfare.
One of the key outcomes was a proposal for a subsidised driver’s licence registration scheme exclusively for students in Oyo State. Dahunsi welcomed the initiative and pledged to work with FOSSU to ensure the process is affordable and accessible to students in tertiary institutions across the state.
The FRSC also approved the establishment of a dedicated FOSSU–FRSC Students’ Desk Office at the Oyo State Command. The office will serve as a liaison for road safety education, student complaints and joint awareness campaigns on campuses.
In addition, the command acknowledged FOSSU’s request for official number plates for the union’s headquarters vehicles to enhance their identification during official activities.
Speaking after the meeting, FOSSU National President, Senator Ahmed Mufutau, described the engagement as the beginning of a strategic partnership that would improve student safety and welfare.
“This is more than a courtesy visit. It marks the beginning of a life-saving partnership. We appreciate Corps Commander Kehinde Dahunsi for listening to students and supporting initiatives that will promote road safety across Oyo State,” he said.
In his remarks, Corps Commander Dahunsi commended FOSSU for its proactive leadership and reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to working with the student body to promote responsible road use among students.
He noted that students remain key stakeholders in the campaign for safer roads and pledged the command’s continued support for initiatives that encourage responsible driving and reduce road crashes.
