Justice Faruku Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has regained his freedom after spending one week in captivity following his abduction by gunmen.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the judge’s release in a statement issued on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman.

According to the police, Justice Bunza was released on Monday and has safely reunited with his family. The Command said the release was also confirmed by the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice.

Security agencies have since intensified investigations to identify and arrest those responsible for the abduction.
The Command appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation, assuring that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
It also thanked residents and partner security agencies for their cooperation and support throughout the period of the judge’s captivity.
A family member, who confirmed the development, expressed gratitude for the judge’s safe return.
“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity. He was just released and has returned home now after spending one week with the bandits,” the family member said.
The family also appreciated the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies and residents of the state for their prayers, support and solidarity during the ordeal.
