Sports commissioner says victories reflect Makinde administration’s investment in youth and sports development.

The Oyo State Government has celebrated Pacesetter Queens Football Club after the team won the 2026 Oyo State Challenge Cup and the Ibadan Football Association (IFA) League, describing the achievements as evidence of the state’s sustained investment in sports development.

The management of the club presented both trophies to the state government during a reception at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Ibadan, where the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, received the victorious team.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry,Ibadan Football Association, the commissioner said the club’s success reflected what could be achieved through government support, discipline and dedication. She noted that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has consistently invested in sports as a tool for youth empowerment, talent discovery and economic development, adding that the team’s achievements further justified the government’s commitment to the sector.

She congratulated the players and urged them to remain focused and continue striving for greater success in future competitions.

Speaking on behalf of the club, Team Manager, Prince Babatunde Adegorowa, thanked Governor Makinde for creating an enabling environment for sports development in the state. He said the victories in both the Oyo State Challenge Cup and the IFA League were made possible through the administration’s support and pledged that the club would continue to work hard to win more honours for Oyo State.

The presentation of the trophies highlighted the state’s growing reputation in grassroots and women’s football, with the government reaffirming its commitment to developing young sporting talents across Oyo State.
