Governor Nwifuru announces monthly support for corps members as 2026 Batch B Stream II begins orientation in Afikpo.
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has approved a monthly stipend of ₦30,000 for every National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member deployed to the state.
The announcement was made on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch B Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo.
Representing the governor, Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Chidiebere Onyia, said the initiative reflected the state government’s commitment to the welfare, security and development of corps members.
Onyia described Ebonyi as a peaceful and hospitable state, urging the corps members to use their service year to develop themselves, build relationships across cultures and contribute meaningfully to their host communities.
“This administration remains committed to supporting your growth, welfare, and safety,” he said.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Malgwi Maidariya, commended the state government for its support but appealed for further intervention to improve facilities at the orientation camp located at Old MacGregor College, Afikpo.
She called for the modernisation of the central kitchen, construction of a standard dining facility, establishment of a fully equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) centre and renovation of the camp’s perimeter fence.
Maidariya also urged the new corps members to remain disciplined and actively participate in camp activities while upholding the values of patriotism, integrity and selfless service.
The swearing-in ceremony featured the administration of the oath of allegiance, tactical drills by the Man O’ War unit, cultural performances and an inspection of infrastructure projects within the camp.
