Afrobeats star jumps, kneels and lies on the floor in excitement after INEC declares Adeleke winner of the Osun governorship election.
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, as governor of Osun State.
Davido, who played a prominent role in his uncle’s campaign, shared a celebratory message on X on Sunday shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner.
“WE DID IT UNC!!! @aadeleke_01,” the singer wrote alongside a video showing his reaction to the election result.
In the video, Davido jumped up, knelt and eventually lay on the floor in excitement as the Returning Officer, Joshua Ogunwole, formally declared Adeleke the winner. Members of his team joined him in celebrating the victory.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.
The governor won 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.
Davido served as Chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Campaign Council and suspended parts of his music career to campaign for his uncle ahead of the election.
He participated in rallies and grassroots mobilisation activities and used his social media platforms to urge supporters to vote, reject violence and monitor the electoral process.
The singer also called on INEC and other authorities to ensure transparency during the collation and announcement of results.
Following the declaration, supporters gathered in Osogbo, the state capital, and Ede, Adeleke’s hometown, to celebrate his victory.
The result gives Adeleke another four years in office after he won the 2022 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before defecting to the Accord Party in December 2025.
