President leads campaign council as Akpabio, Abbas, Oshiomhole, Gbajabiamila and Faleke take key roles ahead of 2027 election.

President Bola Tinubu has constituted the Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election, with former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, appointed Director-General.

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was named Secretary of the council, while Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will serve as Chairman and Vice-Chairman I respectively.

The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, was appointed Vice-Chairman II, while APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.

The appointments were contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday.

The council also includes Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni as Deputy Directors-General for the southern and northern campaign operations.

Former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, was appointed Deputy Director-General for Mobilisation, while the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will oversee administration.

James Faleke, who played a prominent role in the APC’s 2023 presidential campaign, returns as Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring.

The campaign’s Media and Strategic Communication Directorate will be coordinated by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.

Tinubu also appointed Segun Dada as Director of New Media, while five officials, including Alake, Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda, were named campaign spokespersons.

The President charged members of the council to work tirelessly to secure victory for the APC in the January 2027 elections.

Tinubu urged the directorate leaders to mobilise other party members and supporters who were not formally listed in the campaign structure, stressing the need for a broad-based effort to deliver victory for the party.

He said the APC would enter the campaign season with its record in government as a major selling point, urging party members to communicate the administration’s achievements and present a message of hope to Nigerians.

“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress,” Tinubu said, adding that the party must “soundly defeat all those forces who plan to take our country backwards.”
