Six suspects arrested as police uncover alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption syndicate in Obafemi-Owode LGA.
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested six suspects and rescued two pregnant women and four children during a raid on an alleged baby factory in Abaren Village, Mowe, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, conducted on August 24, 2026, followed sustained intelligence on the activities of an alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption syndicate operating at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole.
According to the command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Oluborode Opeyemi, the rescued victims comprised two heavily pregnant women and four children, including two boys and two girls.
The police also traced the investigation to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another victim reportedly gave birth to a baby boy on August 20. The newborn could not be accounted for while the mother was receiving medical treatment, leading to the arrest of the attending nurse.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation into the alleged syndicate, efforts to locate the missing newborn and prosecution of suspects found culpable.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other violent crimes in the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police, assuring that intelligence-led operations would be sustained to protect residents and combat criminal activities.
