The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED) chapter, has declared a total and indefinite strike over the failure of the Ondo State Government to fully implement the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and pay accrued arrears from January 1, 2026.
The decision was taken at the union’s congress on Thursday, August 27, 2026, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university management and state government.
In a statement signed by the chapter’s Chairperson, Abraham O. Oladebeye, and Secretary, Adeniran O. Akinola, ASUU said its review showed that the agreement had not been fully implemented.
The union directed members to immediately withdraw from all statutory academic duties, effectively halting academic activities indefinitely from 11:25am on Thursday.
The affected activities include lectures, continuous assessments, examinations, seminars, departmental and faculty meetings, Senate meetings, and postgraduate and undergraduate academic activities.
Lecturers were also directed to suspend supervision of research projects, Information Technology (IT) supervision, fieldwork and other academic responsibilities.
ASUU-UNIMED said the strike would continue until the 2025 agreement is fully implemented at the university and all accrued arrears from January 1, 2026, are paid.
