Suspects allegedly hijacked trucks along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and diverted them to criminal receivers in Kwara State.
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of an armed robbery and truck-hijacking syndicate allegedly involved in stealing and diverting trucks in Oyo and neighbouring states.
The suspects were arrested following actionable intelligence and a tip-off from members of the public, according to the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
Ayanlade said the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, directed operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit to conduct an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on August 24, 2026.
The operatives intercepted a white SINO HOWO truck and arrested two suspects, identified as Ojedokun Olakunle Isaac, a motor boy attached to the truck driver, and Ajuwon Ismail.
Police said the truck had already had its rear body removed and was being driven towards the Ogbomoso/Ilorin axis for delivery to an alleged criminal receiver.
According to the Command, Ojedokun allegedly confessed to masterminding the hijacking of the truck from his employer. His confession reportedly led to the arrest of two other suspects, Adekunle Sunday and Rasheed Music.
Police alleged that Adekunle served as the syndicate’s designated driver for hijacked trucks, while Rasheed specialised in removing vehicle trackers and other electronic devices used to locate the vehicles.
The Command said the syndicate had hijacked the truck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at about 11pm on August 24 before diverting it towards Ogbomoso and Ilorin.
Police said efforts were ongoing to recover the truck’s detached rear body and arrest other members of the syndicate still at large.
The Commissioner of Police commended members of the public for providing information that aided the operation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and dismantling criminal networks across Oyo State.
