The Federal Workers Forum has asked President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to immediately review federal workers’ salaries and increase the minimum wage from N70,000 to N300,000.
In a letter dated September 2, 2026, and signed by its National Coordinator, Andrew Emelieze, and General Secretary, Ogundele Ayodele, the forum also proposed N1.5 million as the salary for Level 17 officers.
The workers said the N70,000 minimum wage had become inadequate due to rising costs of food, transportation, accommodation, electricity and cooking gas.
They also alleged that the 2024 wage increase had not been fully implemented, particularly the consequential adjustments and allowances.
The forum proposed a salary structure ranging from N300,000 for Level 1 workers to N1.5 million for Level 17 officers.
It further demanded payment of outstanding salaries and promotion arrears, implementation of the 40 per cent peculiar allowance, a permanent Cost of Living Allowance and Family Support Allowance.
Other demands included improved health insurance, housing and car loan schemes, better pension arrangements, free education for workers’ children in federal institutions and tax relief.
The FWF also called for an investigation into reports that workers’ contributory pension savings were being borrowed by the executive.
The forum urged the National Assembly to treat its demands as an emergency, arguing that federal workers could not afford to wait until July 2027 for another wage review.
