Political Commentator Stabbed to Death at His Residence in Kumbotso
The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the killing of social media influencer and political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil, popularly known as Danshagamu.
The Command said two suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of the influencer at Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on Monday, September 8, at about 11:30 p.m., when suspected hoodlums allegedly forced their way into Danshagamu’s residence and attacked him with sharp objects.
The Police said operatives of the Kumbotso Police Division were deployed after receiving a distress report from the Commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group.
Danshagamu was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
The Command said the two suspects were arrested during an intelligence-driven operation involving the Kumbotso Police Division, tactical units and community stakeholders.
The suspects remain in custody and are being interrogated, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other persons allegedly linked to the killing. The Police said forensic procedures are also underway to establish the circumstances and motive behind the attack.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and prosecute those responsible for the killing.
The governor, through his spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described the incident as shocking and unacceptable and urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, assured residents that the perpetrators would be brought to justice, while additional patrols and intelligence-gathering operations have been deployed in Gaida and surrounding areas.
The Police said the suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
