NSC Confirms Cash Reward, Says Presidential Package for Players and Officials Is Fully Redeemed
The National Sports Commission has confirmed the payment of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player of D’Tigress following the team’s victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.
Each team official also received the naira equivalent of $50,000, with the accounts of all players and officials credited on September 9, 2026.
The NSC said all recipients had confirmed receipt of the payments, completing the cash component of the Presidential Reward promised by President Bola Tinubu.
D’Tigress won the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket title for a record fifth consecutive time and seventh overall.
According to the commission, the full reward package for each player comprised a three-bedroom apartment in Abuja, the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) and $100,000, while officials received $50,000 each alongside the other components.
The NSC said title documents for the apartments and certificates of national honours were presented to the players and officials in February 2026 during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Lyon, France.
The commission also disclosed that the Super Falcons had received their apartment title documents and national honour certificates following their own Presidential Reward.
The Falcons, who received the documents during the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, are expected to receive the cash component of their reward before their next official engagements.
The NSC said the rewards reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to athletes’ welfare and appropriate recognition of sporting achievements.
The commission thanked President Tinubu and relevant ministries and government agencies for their roles in implementing the rewards.
