Commissioner Peter Eze Says Over 700 Federal Institutions Offer Employment and Other Opportunities

The Federal Character Commission Commissioner representing Enugu State, Peter Eze, has urged youths to stop assuming that Federal Government jobs are reserved for people with political connections.

Eze spoke on Thursday at the Peter Eze Youth Connect workshop at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, with the theme, “Beyond Quotas: Unlocking Opportunities for Enugu Youths Through the Federal Character Commission.”

He said misinformation that federal jobs were already shared before vacancies were advertised had discouraged many qualified youths from applying.

Eze urged young people to put themselves forward and follow due process instead of disqualifying themselves through fear or assumptions that recruitment outcomes had already been decided.

“You can barely get an opportunity you do not apply for,” he said.

The commissioner said the FCC has a constitutional responsibility to promote equitable representation in federal institutions, noting that more than 700 federal ministries, departments, agencies, commissions and other establishments offer employment and related opportunities.

He also warned youths against middlemen and fraudsters demanding money for government jobs, stressing that applicants should prepare themselves rather than pay for employment.

“You do not need to buy a job; you need to prepare yourself,” Eze said.

He said the workshop would also expose participants to grants, scholarships, fellowships, training programmes and other legitimate opportunities, with five participants to be selected for full scholarships to study abroad.

Eze said the initiative would continue beyond the workshop through a network designed to help youths access and share verified information on available opportunities.

“Get the information. Follow the process. Prepare yourself. Apply. Compete. And pursue your opportunity,” he said.
