Commissioner Urges Students, Teachers and Parents to Prioritise Academic Excellence
The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the education sector through policies and programmes aimed at enhancing learning outcomes in public and private schools across the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola, stated this on behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde in a welcome-back message to students ahead of the resumption of the first term of the 2026/2027 academic session on September 14, 2026.
Olayiwola urged students to remain focused, disciplined and dedicated to their studies while obeying school and state regulations.
He also charged teachers to maintain high standards of professionalism by being punctual, properly prepared and consistent in delivering lessons. He stressed the importance of lesson planning, regular classroom attendance and exemplary conduct.
The commissioner called on parents and guardians to actively monitor their children’s academic progress, provide necessary learning materials, instil discipline and maintain communication with teachers and school authorities.
He described the first term as a crucial foundation for the academic year and urged all education stakeholders to work together to improve students’ performance and overall development.
Olayiwola also directed proprietors of private schools to adhere strictly to the academic calendar issued by the ministry and comply with approved guidelines to maintain standards across the state’s education sector.
