Anambra First Lady Calls for Thorough Investigation, Support for Four Rescued Children
The Anambra First Lady, Dr Nonye Soludo, has condemned the alleged sexual abuse and exploitation of a child by her supposed mother in Onitsha, Anambra State.
Soludo also expressed concern over the rescue of four children, aged two, three, six and nine, in connection with the ongoing investigation.
The Anambra State Police Command had on Thursday arrested 36-year-old Anulika Onyeanusia following the circulation of a disturbing video allegedly showing a woman sexually abusing a minor.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives also rescued the four children and recovered sex toys and other items relevant to the investigation.
Reacting to the incident, Soludo said no child deserved to experience such trauma, stressing that children should be protected, loved and allowed to grow in a safe environment.
She commended the police and others whose information and intervention led to the rescue of the children, while urging the authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent and professional investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.
The First Lady said her immediate concern was the welfare of the rescued children, stressing that their protection must go beyond physical safety to include medical, psychological, social and rehabilitation support.
“I will be following this case closely and will remain in touch with the relevant authorities to ensure that the children are properly protected and that full justice is served,” she said.
Soludo, who is the founder of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, also urged parents, guardians, neighbours and community members to remain vigilant and report anything that threatens the safety or dignity of children.
She reaffirmed the Anambra government’s commitment to protecting women and children from violence, abuse and exploitation.
