2027 NDC Candidate Says He Has No Objection to Public Scrutiny of His Qualifications
The 2027 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Development Coalition (NDC), Peter Obi, has asked the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) to release his academic records following reports of legal action seeking Certified True Copies of his certificates and admission documents.
Obi, in a statement on Tuesday, said he had no objection to the release of his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, which he said he obtained from the university in 1984.
He also asked UNN to make available other official records relating to his admission and studies, provided the requests are legitimate and within the limits of the law.
The former Anambra State governor said he also had no objection to other institutions he attended in Nigeria and abroad releasing his academic records in accordance with applicable laws and procedures.
Obi said he believed in transparency and accountability, particularly for individuals seeking public office, but stressed that public scrutiny should be fair, lawful and applied consistently.
He said he welcomed legitimate interest in his background, qualifications and record and was prepared to undergo the level of scrutiny reasonably expected of anyone seeking the presidency.
Obi also challenged other presidential aspirants to make their educational qualifications and relevant records available for legitimate public scrutiny.
According to him, such transparency should be seen as an opportunity to strengthen public confidence, promote accountability and rebuild Nigerians’ trust in political leaders.
He said leadership should reflect values such as transparency, integrity, accountability and respect for institutions.
