Kabara Takes Over From Suspended Commandant Suberu Aniviye
The newly redeployed Niger State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Abudulhamid Salisu Kabara, has assumed duty and taken over the command.
Kabara succeeded Commandant Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, who was suspended following the deaths of 37 persons arrested in connection with suspected illegal mining activities in the state.
The NSCDC spokesperson, DSC Abubakar Rabiu Muti, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
Kabara described the deaths as deeply saddening and extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and others affected by the incident.
He said the Corps remained committed to its statutory responsibilities, including arrest, investigation, enforcement and the fight against illegal mining.
However, the new commandant stressed that the sanctity of human life must remain paramount in the discharge of those responsibilities.
He said enforcing the law and protecting society must go hand in hand with upholding the dignity, safety and welfare of persons in custody.
Kabara prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and for Allah to grant them eternal rest, while asking God to give their families and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
