President Hails Former SGF’s Contributions to Democracy, Public Service
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated elder statesman and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Samuel Falae, on his 88th birthday.
Falae, who also served as Minister of Finance and was a co-founder of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), turned 88 on Monday, September 21, 2026.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Falae as one of the Nigerians whose contributions to the country’s political and democratic development earned him a place in Nigeria’s history.
The President commended Falae’s public service, particularly his tenure as SGF and Minister of Finance, as well as his contributions to public administration and economic development.
President Tinubu also praised his role in the pro-democracy movement following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
He described Falae as a patriot whose commitment to democratic governance and constitutional rule remained significant to Nigeria’s political history.
“Chief Falae is a patriot whose life reflects a deep commitment to the service of our nation,” President Tinubu said, noting his role in advocating the restoration of democratic rule and defending citizens’ rights during the military era.
The President celebrated Falae’s courage, wisdom and dedication to Nigeria, while urging continued efforts to strengthen democracy and build a prosperous nation.
President Tinubu prayed for good health, wisdom and renewed strength for the elder statesman to continue contributing to Nigeria’s development.
