President says government is tackling insecurity through security operations and economic measures

President Bola Tinubu has identified poverty, unemployment, poor education and social disintegration as major drivers of conflict in Nigeria.

President Tinubu spoke on Saturday at the passing-out ceremony of cadets of various courses at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), where he was represented by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.

The President said military operations alone could not defeat insecurity, stressing that his administration was also addressing its underlying causes through job creation, economic stability, human capital development and social protection.

He urged the newly commissioned officers to uphold professionalism, discipline and loyalty in the discharge of their duties.

President Tinubu also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional security and democratic governance, saying the country would continue to pursue diplomacy, security cooperation and economic integration through ECOWAS and other regional bodies.

He said Nigeria remained opposed to unconstitutional changes of government but would not abandon Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.

The President further said the NDA had continued to adapt its training to emerging security challenges through enhanced counter-terrorism and counterinsurgency training, technology integration and international military partnerships.

He added that the Academy continues to train cadets from several African countries, strengthening military cooperation and defence education across the continent.
