Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Police Force will work to ensure peaceful and orderly conduct of the 2027 general elections.

Disu gave the assurance on Saturday in Lagos while speaking with journalists after receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from his alma mater, St. Gregory’s College, through the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys’ Association.

The ceremony, held at the Naval Dockyard, Victoria Island, also featured the recognition of Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Olayemi Cardoso and the launch of the association’s Endowment and Perpetual Fund.

Speaking on preparations for the 2027 elections, Disu said the police had learnt lessons from the recent governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states and would build on them.

He said the Force had recently briefed Commissioners of Police and other officers expected to participate in election duties as part of its preparations for the 2027 polls.

The IGP’s assurance followed a September 2026 conference in Owerri, Imo State, where he outlined a six-point election security framework covering intelligence gathering, training and preparedness, inter-agency coordination, communication and technology, community engagement and political neutrality.

Disu had also directed police officers to remain neutral and warned that personnel who take sides, collude with political actors or abuse their powers during the elections would be investigated and sanctioned.

At the Lagos event, Disu described the Lifetime Achievement Award from his alma mater as one of the most significant recognitions of his career.

He said the values instilled in him at St. Gregory’s College, including respect for elders, commitment to excellence and continuous learning, had remained important throughout his career.

Disu urged younger Nigerians to uphold those values and preserve what he described as the “Gregorian spirit.”
