Education Ministry Approves Books for Primary 1, Primary 4, JSS 1 and SS 1

The Federal Ministry of Education has released the final list of ranked and approved textbooks for use in Nigerian schools from 2026 to 2028.

The ministry announced the release in a statement by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, following the completion of the first phase of the national textbook ranking exercise.

The approved list covers textbooks for Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1 and Senior Secondary School 1.

Each approved textbook has been assigned a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code, alongside details including the title, author, publisher and year of publication.

The ministry said the tracking system would strengthen monitoring and control of approved instructional materials while improving transparency in their selection, procurement and use.

The exercise was conducted under the leadership of Education Minister Maruf Tunji Alausa and Minister of State for Education Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, with Alausa approving the final list.

The ministry said the additional process of generating and assigning the tracking codes contributed to the time required to complete and validate the list.

The second phase of the ranking exercise will cover textbooks for Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2 and SS 2, with the same tracking measures to be applied.

The ministry urged publishers, schools, education authorities and procurement agencies to consult and comply with the approved list when selecting textbooks for the affected classes.

It said the exercise was part of efforts to improve the quality, relevance and accountability of instructional materials in Nigerian schools.
