President Bola Tinubu will address the nation at 7am on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
President Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, announced this in a statement on Wednesday night.

The address will be President Tinubu’s fourth Independence Day broadcast since he assumed office on May 29, 2023.
The Federal Government had earlier inaugurated an Inter-Ministerial Committee to coordinate a low-key celebration of the 66th independence anniversary.
The committee, chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, was tasked with planning and executing approved activities for the celebration, documenting the events and undertaking other assignments necessary for the anniversary.
Speaking at the committee’s inaugural meeting in Abuja, Akume said the anniversary provided an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the contributions, sacrifices and legacies of the country’s founding fathers and heroines.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office, Bekearedebo Warrens, the SGF said Nigeria’s achievements since independence were built on the foundation laid by the country’s nationalists.
Activities for the anniversary began with a world press conference on September 24, followed by a Juma’at service on September 25 and a church service on September 27.
