Amos Dangut has assumed office as the new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), months after his appointment.
Dangut, a Nigerian, officially took over as the 14th Registrar of the council on October 1, 2026, according to a statement by the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters in Accra, Ghana, Demianus Ojijeogu.

He will serve a five-year tenure, running from October 2026 to September 2031, succeeding Pateh Bah of The Gambia.
Dangut previously served as the Head of the WAEC National Office in Nigeria from October 2, 2023, until his new appointment.
The International Governing Board of WAEC ratified his appointment at the council’s 74th Annual Meeting held in Accra in March 2026.
Born on October 2, 1967, Dangut holds a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production, a Master of Science in Animal Science, a PhD in Animal Science and a Master of Education in Administration and Planning.
He began his career in education in 1994 at St Louis College, Jos, where he served as a WAEC examiner, before joining the council in 1998.
Since joining WAEC, Dangut has served in several capacities, including Assistant Registrar/Subject Officer in the Test Development Division, Branch Controller in Yola, Controller of the Post Examinations Department, Zonal Coordinator in Ikeja and Deputy Registrar in the Head of National Office’s Office.
WAEC described him as skilled in test development, test administration and branch and zonal office management, noting that he had used information and communications technology to improve examination processes.
During his tenure as Head of the National Office, Dangut oversaw several innovations, including the rollout of Computer-Based WASSCE, serialisation of question papers and the introduction of a Digital Electronic Marking System.
He also oversaw the Digital Certificate Portal, WAEC E-Study Platform, Digital Records Archive and systems for examination logistics, timetable management and monitoring examiners’ attendance.
The council said Dangut had also served on the governing boards of organisations including the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
WAEC described Dangut as a scholar with publications in national and international journals and said he had presented papers at several conferences.
He is currently the Regional Representative of the West African sub-region on the Executive Board of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa.
