Governor Says Political Will From Presidency Has Strengthened Fight Against Kidnapping, Cultism and Banditry

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has attributed the successes recorded by his administration in tackling insecurity to the support of President Bola Tinubu.

Governor Okpebholo stated this during a tour of Edo North Senatorial District, where he visited Owan West and Owan East Local Government Areas to mobilise All Progressives Congress (APC) members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor said the support from President Tinubu had provided the political will and strength to confront kidnapping, cultism, banditry and other forms of criminality in the state.

He said the improved security situation had allowed residents to return to their farms without fear of kidnappers, while cult-related killings had also been brought under control.

Governor Okpebholo also said the removal of fuel subsidy had increased resources available to the state for development, adding that his administration had continued to pay salaries as and when due.

During the tour, the governor said he identified two bad portions of road between Owan West and Owan East and directed the Commissioner for Works to mobilise to the areas.

On the 2027 presidential election, Governor Okpebholo urged APC members to support President Tinubu’s re-election, saying there would be “no vacancy in Aso Rock” in 2027.

APC leaders in the district also urged members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and support the party ahead of the elections. Former Edo governor and Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, criticised the proposed political alliance involving former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, describing it as “a formula that will not work for Nigeria.”
