Atiku Abubakar

Former Vice President says Nigerians deserve accountability on subsidy funds, warns against growing dependence on loans.

Former Vice President and presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed concerns over the management of funds saved from the removal of fuel subsidy, alleging that the proceeds have not been properly accounted for. Atiku said Nigerians deserve transparency regarding how the savings generated from the policy have been utilised, especially given the economic hardships many citizens continue to face following the subsidy removal.

The former presidential candidate also took aim at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic approach, accusing the administration of making borrowing a central pillar of its economic policy. According to Atiku, the increasing reliance on loans could worsen the country’s financial challenges if not carefully managed. He urged the government to provide greater accountability on public spending and adopt policies that would stimulate economic growth while reducing the burden on ordinary Nigerians.
