APM Candidate Pledges Education Overhaul, Devolution of Powers and Constitutional Governance
The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has unveiled his Reset Nigeria Agenda, outlining proposed reforms in the economy, education, security and governance ahead of the 2027 election.
Governor Makinde unveiled the agenda at the Makinde/Daura 2027 Presidency North-West Zonal Town Hall Meeting in Katsina, where he called for issue-based politics and adherence to constitutional democracy.
He said his proposed administration would focus on making Nigeria’s economy more productive and competitive through investment in skills, knowledge and round-the-clock economic activities.
On education, Governor Makinde pledged to tackle the challenge of out-of-school children through reliable data and targeted interventions.
Addressing insecurity, the APM candidate described the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in Niger State as a national tragedy and said governments should address the root causes of insecurity alongside enforcement measures.
He proposed devolving mining responsibilities to state governments while retaining regulatory oversight at the federal level. He also promised to devolve more powers to states as part of broader reforms to improve governance and service delivery.
Governor Makinde also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s reported working leave, citing Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution and promising to transmit power to the Vice President whenever he is unavailable or on vacation.
“I will follow the Constitution to the letter. Whenever I am unavailable or on vacation, I will transmit power to the Vice President. Record this and hold me accountable,” he said.
The APM presidential candidate also disputed FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s claim that the Federal Government provided ₦50 billion for the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan. Makinde maintained that the project is being fully funded by the Oyo State Government.
He urged Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and support his proposed political movement, while describing the 2027 election as “APC versus Nigerians.”
Governor Makinde said he would return to the North-West states of Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Zamfara and Jigawa as part of his state-by-state campaign tour.
His running mate and former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Musa Daura, identified insecurity as the region’s major challenge.
Daura said an APM administration led by Governor Makinde would adopt alternative approaches to reduce violence and restore peace, adding that the party would soon unveil detailed policy proposals for national reforms.
