The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly vandalising and stealing equipment from a telecommunications mast in Awka.
The suspect, identified as Nweke Wisdom from Izzi South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was arrested on Thursday at Esther Obiakor Estate, Agu-Awka, following a distress call about a suspected vandal at the mast.
The Head of Media and Tactical Operations of the NSCDC in Anambra, Edwin Okadigbo, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, Wisdom was apprehended at about 7:20 a.m. with items allegedly removed from the mast installation, including DC and armoured cables.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect allegedly specialises in vandalising telecommunication masts and stealing valuable equipment therefrom,” the statement said.
The NSCDC said the suspect was taken to its state headquarters in Awka, adding that he had made useful confessions and would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
The command also reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, urging residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
It warned vandals to desist from such activities or face the full weight of the law.
