Renowned veterinary scholar and ex-University of Ilorin Vice-Chancellor passes away after a brief illness.
Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has died at the age of 68.
Prof. Ambali reportedly passed away in the early hours of Saturday at his residence in Oloje Estate, Ilorin, after a brief illness.

Confirming the development, the University of Ilorin described his death as a huge loss to the institution, Kwara State, and the nation. The late academic served as the university’s 9th Vice-Chancellor between 2012 and 2017 and was, until his death, the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete.
A distinguished veterinary medicine scholar, Ambali earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ahmadu Bello University before obtaining his Master’s and PhD from the University of Liverpool. He lectured at the University of Maiduguri and later rose to become Professor of Veterinary Medicine and pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ilorin.
He also served as Chairman of the Association of West African Universities and was a Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons of Nigeria.
The Janazah prayer for the late professor is scheduled to hold at his residence in Ilorin on Saturday.
