First Lady marks 2026 World Day Against Child Labour, advocates investment in families, education and safe environments for children.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on governments, communities, families and stakeholders to intensify efforts toward ending child labour and improving the welfare of children across Nigeria.
In a message marking the 2026 World Day Against Child Labour on Friday, she stressed the importance of creating opportunities that empower families and communities to adequately care for children and protect them from exploitation.

She said every child deserves the right to education, dignity, safety and the opportunity to achieve their full potential, adding that no child should be forced into labour or deprived of a secure upbringing.
Mrs Tinubu noted that children should be raised in safe environments such as homes, schools and playgrounds where they can learn and thrive, urging Nigerians to collectively “raise a red card against child labour.”
She also encouraged sustained national commitment to child welfare, saying the protection of children is essential to building a fairer and more prosperous future for the country.
