Inmates express joy and renewed hope as Nigeria, Ethiopia sign prisoner transfer agreement.
Nigerian inmates at AbaSamuel Prisons in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, have expressed excitement following the signing of a Prisoner Transfer Agreement between Nigeria and Ethiopia that will allow eligible prisoners to complete their sentences in Nigeria.
The inmates welcomed the development and thanked President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government for prioritising the welfare of Nigerians abroad.

Reacting to the development on Saturday, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, described the mood among the prisoners as one of joy and renewed hope.
“The atmosphere was absolutely electric. Our incarcerated nationals were ecstatic! Happiness Renewed; Hope Renewed,” she wrote on X.
According to Ojukwu, the inmates expressed delight at the prospect of returning home to serve the remainder of their custodial terms following the landmark agreement between both countries.
She reiterated that the welfare of Nigerians abroad remains a key priority of the Tinubu administration under its Renewed Hope Agenda.
The agreement is expected to facilitate the transfer of convicted persons between Nigeria and Ethiopia, allowing them to serve their sentences closer to their families and support networks.
