Government imposes sweeping security measures in Kabba/Bunu as security forces intensify hunt for terrorists linked to deadly Iluke attack.

The Kogi State Government has announced a series of tough security measures aimed at flushing out criminal elements operating in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area following the recent terrorist attack on Iluke community.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the government imposed an immediate ban on commercial motorcycle operations across several hinterland routes in Bunu District, citing intelligence reports that bandits use motorcycles for logistics, intelligence gathering and movement of supplies.

Authorities also ordered the closure of markets along affected corridors, suspended the transportation and sale of medicines by motorcycle operators, and banned the sale of petrol and diesel in jerricans across Kabba/Bunu LGA to cut off supplies to criminals hiding in forest camps.

The government disclosed that joint security forces have recorded major successes against the attackers, neutralising several terrorists while others remain trapped in forested areas after sustaining injuries during ongoing operations.

In a further move to strengthen security statewide, the government announced a ban on movement along all state-owned roads after 7:00 p.m., warning that violators would be arrested and prosecuted.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo directed security agencies to ensure strict enforcement of the measures, stressing that anyone found aiding, harbouring or supplying terrorists would be treated as an accomplice and prosecuted under the law.

The crackdown follows Wednesday’s attack on Government Secondary School, Iluke Bunu, where suspected bandits riding about 40 motorcycles killed three people, including a vice principal and a six-year-old child, before being repelled by security operatives.
