State government urges residents to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity as Muslims celebrate Hijrah 1448AH.
The Oyo State Government has declared Tuesday, June 16, 2026, a work-free day to commemorate the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448AH.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who said the gesture reflects the government’s recognition of the significance of Hijrah in the lives of Muslims.

According to Oyelade, Hijrah marks the migration of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622AD, a historic event regarded as a turning point in Islamic history.
He called on residents to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in Oyo State and Nigeria, while also reflecting on the values of faith, sacrifice, and brotherhood associated with the Islamic New Year.
The commissioner urged citizens to embrace the spirit of solidarity and community as Muslims across the state celebrate the beginning of a new Islamic calendar year.
