Governor describes Oriire school abduction as traumatic, while DIG Fayoade assures intensified efforts to rescue victims.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appealed for stronger collaboration between the state government and the Nigeria Police Force to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted from Yawota and Esiele communities in Oriire Local Government Area.
Speaking on Monday while receiving the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West, Olatoye Fayoade, in Ibadan, Makinde described the abduction as one of the most traumatic incidents to confront the state in recent times.

The governor noted that the victims had spent one month in captivity, stressing the need for sustained cooperation among security agencies and all levels of government to secure their freedom.
“Today marks exactly one month since the children and their teachers were abducted. It has been a traumatic and depressing situation for us as a government and for the people of Oyo,” Makinde said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to provide additional support to security agencies and commended the Inspector-General of Police for establishing the Violent Crimes Unit, which he said was already delivering positive results in the state.
Responding, DIG Fayoade assured the governor that the police would not relent until the abducted pupils and teachers were safely reunited with their families. He said security measures had been strengthened across the state and pledged continued efforts to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
The DIG also commended Makinde for his support to security agencies and reiterated the police force’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and critical infrastructure across Oyo State.
