Schools warned against extravagant celebrations, Aso Ebi and extra charges as government moves to reduce financial burden on parents.
The Ogun State Government has restricted graduation ceremonies in public and private schools, banning such events for pupils in Nursery, Kindergarten and other non-terminal classes.
The directive issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology states that graduation ceremonies will only be allowed for Primary Six, JSS 3 and SSS 3 students, who are completing major stages of their formal education.

The Ministry said the move is aimed at reducing financial pressure on parents and stopping schools from imposing unnecessary charges through elaborate end-of-session celebrations.
According to the circular signed by the Director of Education (Private Schools), Bisiriyu A.A., even approved graduation ceremonies must be modest and organised without any financial burden on learners, parents or guardians.
The government also prohibited the use of canopies, Aso Ebi, customised outfits and other extravagant displays during school graduation events, warning that schools that violate the directive will face sanctions.
The Ministry urged school administrators to focus on academic achievements and character development rather than expensive celebrations.
