Governor directs EKSU Teaching Hospital to provide comprehensive treatment as state takes full responsibility for victims’ welfare.

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has directed the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, to provide comprehensive medical screening and treatment for victims of the Eda Oniyo church kidnapping recently released by their abductors.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, the governor also instructed the Ministry of Health and Human Services to oversee the victims’ welfare, with the state government covering all medical expenses.

The victims regained their freedom in the early hours of Saturday after spending more than two months in captivity. They were abducted on April 28, 2026, during a programme at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area. During the attack, the kidnappers killed a pastor, while another victim later died in captivity.

According to the statement, the rescued victims will remain under medical supervision until they are certified fit to reunite with their families.

Governor Oyebanji thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting efforts that led to the victims’ release and also commended security agencies, the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, leaders of the Eda Oniyo community, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and other stakeholders for their roles in securing the victims’ freedom.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urged residents to avoid politicising the incident, and extended his condolences to the family of the victim who lost his life while in captivity.
