Grid disruption and flooding knock out electricity in several communities as power firms begin emergency restoration efforts.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) have announced power outages in several communities across Lagos and Osun states following heavy rainfall, flooding and transmission disruptions.
EKEDC said electricity supply was reduced after the Oshogbo-Ikeja and Benin-Egbin 330kV transmission lines went offline, forcing load shedding across parts of its network. The affected areas include Agungi, Chevron Drive, Alpha Beach, Ikate, Elegushi, Oniru, Maroko, Ajiran, Osapa London, Jakande, Landmark Road and other communities in Lekki.

The company said it is working with the national grid operator to restore normal supply once the affected transmission lines are repaired.
Meanwhile, IBEDC blamed flooding caused by a heavy windstorm at the Ilerin Injection Substation for the blackout affecting communities in Osun State, including Ifewara, Iwara, Irogbo, Ayeso, Wesley, Ilerin, Isare and surrounding areas.
IBEDC apologised for the disruption, assuring customers that its technical team is working to restore electricity as quickly as possible.
