… LASTMA Reports Traffic Disruption as Emergency Responders Move to Clear Scene

A 55-year-old driver escaped injury after a train heading towards Agege rammed into his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos.

The vehicle, with registration number EKY 902 JT, sustained extensive damage in the collision.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said its officials and security personnel rescued the driver and cleared the wreckage from the tracks, allowing the train to continue its journey.

However, traffic congestion persisted around the PWD area after the incident. The damaged car was handed over to security personnel to facilitate an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the officials and security personnel for their swift response and stressed the importance of collaboration during railway-related emergencies.

He urged motorists to exercise caution around railway crossings and warned against crossing tracks when a train is approaching or in motion.

“Reckless disregard for railway safety protocols could precipitate devastating and irreversible consequences,” Bakare-Oki cautioned.

The agency reiterated that protecting human life must remain paramount and urged road users to comply with traffic regulations and railway safety guidelines.
