EDSIEC declares ruling party victorious in every contested seat, says election was largely peaceful despite minor operational challenges.
The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of all 18 chairmanship seats and 192 councillorship positions contested in Saturday’s local government elections.
Announcing the results in Benin City on Sunday, EDSIEC Chairman, Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, said the election was conducted in line with the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law and other relevant electoral guidelines.
He explained that the processes of accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, collation and declaration of results were successfully completed across the state’s 18 local government areas.
According to Aifuobhokhan, the APC secured victory in every chairmanship and councillorship contest, giving the party a clean sweep of the polls.
The commission acknowledged minor operational challenges in a few locations but maintained that they did not affect the credibility or outcome of the election, describing the exercise as generally peaceful.
Aifuobhokhan commended voters for participating in the election and praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for allowing the commission to carry out its responsibilities without interference.
He announced that certificates of return would be presented to the successful candidates on Monday and advised aggrieved parties to seek redress through the appropriate legal channels. He also reaffirmed EDSIEC’s commitment to improving future electoral processes through stakeholder engagement and periodic reviews.
