Suspect arrested in Osun after court-issued bench warrant over alleged fake presidential appointment and fraud charges.
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), following a court-issued bench warrant.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Okokon Iniedu, confirmed that Adeyemi was apprehended by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Osun State.
“We have just confirmed the arrest of Mr. Adeniyi Adeyemi by a team of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Osun State,” Iniedu said.
The arrest came after Justice Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, ordered security agencies to arrest and produce Adeyemi before the court after he failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment on an eight-count charge bordering on forgery, fraud and impersonation.
The defendant is expected to appear before the court on September 30.
According to the charges, Adeyemi allegedly forged an appointment letter purportedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and signed by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
He is also accused of forging State House letterheaded documents, including requests for collaboration with government ministries and applications for office space across the 36 states, while falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.
Police have yet to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
