Tanko Habila Wisdom says family suspects no foul play and wants the late nurse buried without further delay.
The father of the late Mary Habila, Tanko Habila Wisdom, has appealed to authorities to release his daughter’s body for burial, stating that he does not want an autopsy conducted and is not suspecting anyone in connection with her death.
Speaking in a video statement, Wisdom said his family’s only concern is to retrieve the remains of the deceased and accord her a dignified burial.
“I am Tanko Habila Wisdom, the father of the late Mary Habila. I don’t have much to say in this case, all that I want is the corpse of my daughter,” he said.
The grieving father lamented the continued retention of her body in the mortuary, describing it as unnecessary.
“You don’t keep the corpse of a little child for so long just like this, and that’s why I am here to say once and for all that I need the corpse of my daughter to take her for burial. That’s what I am standing on,” he added.
Wisdom also rejected calls for an autopsy, insisting that the family does not support the procedure.
“I don’t want the autopsy and that’s why I am demanding the corpse of my daughter to go and bury her now,” he said.
He further disclosed that the family has maintained a cordial relationship with the Minister of Works, David Umahi, under whom the deceased worked, stressing that they have no reason to suspect foul play.
“We have been having a very cordial relationship with the Minister of Works, her workplace, and we don’t want that autopsy they are talking about,” he stated.
According to him, the family is not accusing anyone over the circumstances surrounding Mary Habila’s death, noting that death is an inevitable part of life.
“I am not suspecting anybody because death can occur at any time. Even as we are standing here now, one can fall here and die,” he said.
Mary Habila’s death has generated public interest in recent days, with calls from some quarters for an independent investigation. However, her family has maintained that its priority remains the immediate release of her body for burial.
