Vice President joins West African leaders in Freetown to discuss regional security, economic integration and sustainable development.
Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday arrived in Lungi, Sierra Leone, to participate in the 69th Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Heads of State and Government.
Shettima, who is representing President Bola Tinubu at the regional meeting, was received at the Sierra Leone International Airport by Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Jalloh.
Also present to welcome the Vice President were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye; and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Ambassador Ayo Luther-Ogbomode.
Others at the airport included the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, Ambassador Olawale Awe.
The summit is expected to bring together heads of state, senior government officials, diplomats and development partners from across the West African sub-region to deliberate on critical issues affecting member states.
Key areas of discussion include regional peace and security, economic integration, democratic governance, infrastructure development and sustainable growth.
Nigeria’s participation at the summit reflects its continued commitment to regional diplomacy and efforts aimed at strengthening cooperation and unity among ECOWAS member states.
Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the high-level engagements.
