Anti-graft agency says recruitment exercises are never conducted secretly and urges job seekers to rely on official channels.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed a viral social media report alleging that it is secretly recruiting personnel, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a statement shared via its official X account on Monday, the anti-graft agency cautioned Nigerians against falling victim to misinformation and fraudulent recruitment schemes.
The EFCC accompanied its warning with a graphic bearing the inscription, “FAKE NEWS” and “THIS IS FALSE NEWS. BEWARE!”
The viral post falsely claimed, “Disturb your godfather ooo. EFCC is secretly recruiting. They are probably reporting for training next month,” while encouraging users to send anonymous messages for more details.
Reacting to the report, the commission categorically denied conducting any clandestine recruitment exercise and advised the public to disregard the information.
The clarification comes amid a growing trend of online scams in which fraudsters exploit the EFCC’s name to deceive job seekers and extort money from unsuspecting Nigerians.
The commission reiterated that all its recruitment exercises are publicly announced through its official communication channels and are never carried out secretly or through intermediaries.
“The public is advised to verify all information concerning the activities of the commission through our official platforms before taking any action,” the EFCC stated.
The agency further urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious recruitment advertisements to relevant authorities.
The EFCC has repeatedly warned that it does not demand payment from applicants during recruitment exercises, stressing that any request for money in exchange for employment opportunities should be treated as fraudulent.
